Cat Canyon Bike Ride

27 July 2012

The 1st picture of the Cat Canyon area shows 3 different bike rides.  The red marks show the end of rides 1 & 2, which are simply out and back rides.

1  is to the top of Cat Canyon and return about  - 32 miles.

2  is over the top down to HW 101 and return - 40 miles

3  is to continue past 101 and return by HW 135 - 42 miles

I did the # 3 route to record the GPS Log that shows all three.  The pins on the map is where I took pictures.

Cat Canyon was a booming oil producer back in the 1920’s, but it’s oil was all pumped out.  Only rusty unused derricks were left.  A very quite and peaceful place.  All that changed about a year ago.  New technology now allows them to pump more oil.  All the old wells have been replaced with new ones.  They probably have 20 oil derricks drilling 24 hr a day, 7 days a week.  The place is a beehive of activity, and they are pumping lots of oil.
