Little Pine    -                 13 Dec., 2012

Little Pine may not sound very big or menacing.  It is basically in the mountains behind and north of Santa Barbara.  We went up and back the same trail.  I does not look very impressive on the map.  It is, however, 6.37 miles from parking lot to the top.

Gaviota is a tough hike, but it is only 3.25 miles to the top.  Gaviota has one section where the grade is 20%, but that section is only about 1/4 of a mile long.  There is no 20% grade on Little Pine, but it has a 16% grade that is FOUR MILES LONG !!!!   The name may be Little, but it measures out pretty BIG.

NOTE: When I was invited on this hike, I was told it was ONLY 4 miles up and 4 miles back.  After hiking for 1 mile we encountered a sign that said ONLY 7 more miles to the top.  Hummmmm....
