The bike ride from Lompoc to Santa Barbara has two very distinct parts. The 1st 20 miles follows HW #1 from Lompoc to Gaviota. There are a lot of ups and downs, but the total ascent is only 3,800 feet over the 20 miles. The real problem is it is inland, and it can get hot. It gradually climbs to a high point overlooking Gaviota. From there the HW drops straight through the Gaviota pass to the Pacific. The next 20 miles to Goleta or 40 miles to Santa Barbara is along the ocean. Along the ocean, the hills are not long and the ocean breeze keeps it cool.
We have made the ride to Santa Barbara 4 times and visited 4 different Breweries.
14 June 2017 M-Special Brewery, Goleta – 45 miles
12 July 2017 Pure Order Brewery, Santa Barbara – 60 miles
31 Aug 2017 Draughtsman Ales Brewery, Goleta – 42 miles
19 Oct 2017 Captian Fatty’s Brewery, Goleta - 50 miles
All Breweries are very close to the Amtrak train station we used to return to Lompoc. The photos below are parts of all rides.
