West Camino Cielo # 2                   2 July 2014

I did this bike ride in 2010 at age 63.  Repeating it in 2014 at age 67 is a clear indication that age does catch up with you.  At that time, I was in much better shape than my much younger friend.  That is not true today LOL

The ride follows the ridge line above Lake Cachama.  The Pacific on one side and the Lake on the other.  The first slides in the photo album are the metrics provided by MapMyHike.  The Elevation chart shows climbs of 13% on the way up, and drops of 16% on the way down.

I wore my Heart Rate Monitor for this ride.  I was very surprised that my heart rate going down the mountain was as high as when I was climbing the mountain.  Considering the effort required to climb some of the slopes; it just did not make sense.  Then I realized in the past I had fallen from my bike on steep upgrades, but I did not fall very far or very fast.  On the down hill portion, you have the very real possibility of falling very far, very fast, and very hard.
