West Camino Cielo # 3

This is the third time I have done the West Camino Cielo forest service road.    It does not get any easier with age.  In 2010, I hardly noticed the hills.  In 2014, I struggled with the hills, and in 2017, I ended up pushing the bike on a couple of the tougher hills.

One of the reasons for the ride was to view the SpaceX launch that had a lift-off time of 11:50.  Dave’s route was 3 miles longer than mine, and he got to our viewing spot at the top, 60 minutes before Lift-off.  I got there 6 minutes before lift-off.

A fire burnt over this area a few weeks back.  It was never stunningly beautiful, but now it is really desolate.  I rode the 9 miles to the top and then the 14 miles all downhill on the Refugio side to Refugio beach.  From the top, Dave turned around and rode West Camino Cielo back to the start to pick up the car.
